So, of course we stayed up late after we put the kids down for bed at Chess and Melissa's house.....yeah, we didn't get to bed until after 1:30am....but we didn't care! (If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out my previous post....Chuck E. Cheese's). We had so much fun! But, we had to check in at Primary Children's Hospital at 6:30am....which means that we had to leave Spanish Fork at 5:30am....which means we had to be up by no later than 5 am! Ouch! So, we got on the road at 5:30 and got there fine and on time. We walked in to the Surgery admitting room and the waiting room was filled with lots of little babies, (most doctors do surgery on newborns first), and moms with red, teary eyes....it was hard to see, and made me remember vividly taking Kinsey in for her first surgery at 5 months old (and all the rest of the surgeries), but it also made me grateful for it all in a weird way. We got Kinsey all gowned up and they did the physical exam and then we went to the Same Day

waiting room to play. This is where Kinsey and Jonas fought over the toy ride-in car. Kinsey was great and gave him a turn and he was in love! We might have to put in a call to Santa! They gave her some Versed, a sedative that makes them not really care about all the craziness around them, and we put her in a wagon. Only a few minutes later, the Anesthesiologist came over and talked with us and gave us the shpleel and then said..."okay, I'll take her now and we'll get started".....I barely had time to give her a kiss goodbye and Jason didn't get to at all, and he was pretty upset about that. They usually put us in a bay in Same Day Surgery and we say goodbye to her from her there, but not this time, I guess. The surgery started a little after 8 am and we ran down to the cafeteria to get some breakfast. We knew it would only take 45 minutes or so, and then a few more in recovery, so we hurried. They were doing a hardware removal surgery. Kinsey had two plates and four screws placed in her femur last surgery, which was about 2 years ago, and they were concerned that leaving it all in there would stunt her growth, so they wanted it out. Jason and I were wanting to see her so

bad that we were fighting over who got to go in with her once we got the okay! I've always gone in with her, so I won out in the end! hahaha. I walked into the room to find Kinsey sleeping soundly with the nurse calling in report. When the nurse got off the phone, she said, "Are you Kinsey's mom?" and Kinsey's eyes popped open and she looked at me and was so excited to see me, but was still groggy. Now, this is her 6th surgery and this is the very first time that she has come out of surgery without screaming and ripping cords and IVs out of her and basically freaking all the nurses out. I have to admit, the majority of my anxiety about her going into surgery is because its so hard to see her writhing and in such a panic coming out of the anesthesia. This was such a load off, having her come to in such a relaxed way! After I gave her a

hug, she opened her eyes and said, "Mommy,
I want a Jamba Juice." I thought that was so cute! She was transferred into Same Day again around 10 am and Jason and Jonas came to hang out with us. She was super groggy and drank some fluids, but it was no use, she was still pretty nauseated and it came back up. So, we let her go back to sleep in Jason's arms until about 11:30, while Jonas had his morning nap on her hospital bed, then we woke her up and gave her more juice and crackers. She perked right up and they were needing the space, so they discharged us and at 12:30 we were outta there! Kinsey did get sick a few more times in the car, but the nurse had been smart and given us a bucket....poor kid! We got home around 5 pm because we had to stop a few times along the way, but all in all, it was an easy trip and the easiest surgery she's ever had to go through! We brought her home, rented her a couple of movies, and let her just chill on the couch until she was ready to go to bed. She's been hobbling around on her feet pretty well, but every once in a while, she'll stop mid-stride and call for us to come and help her because her leg hurts. She's always kinda been stubborn when it comes to staying off her feet. Even in her spica casts, she would walk around in them like nothing was wrong. We're trying to stay on top of the pain at least for the first day or two, so we keep her pretty medicated, and BOY is she chatty! Jason was joking today that he'll know that she's been smoking something if she comes home this chatty as a teenager! She was telling us what she wants from Santa, all about her friends, and a bunch of other stuff that was just filler, I think! We've just been laughing at the stuff coming out of her mouth today because she's just so cute and uncharacteristically chatty! So, long story short....easy surgery, did fine, walking around and is pretty stoned! Happy Thanksgiving, guys!

Hey Jason, Aaron here. Happy Birthday!! We wish we were there but I'm sure you are having a great birthday. Just take it easy, play some good video games, and eat lots of junk food. Anyways, hope all is well and we just want you to know we are thinking of ya.
Ok I totally didn't know Kinzie was having surgery, but I'm really glad that everything went well. If you need anything let me know. We really need to get together and have a play day one of these days.
