THE BEACH...neener, neener, neener!

Last Sunday, we decided to risk a trip into L.A. We wanted to see my Grandpa and take Jason's brother Jeromy to the airport. There was basically no traffic...and Jason kept saying the whole time...."I've never driven into L.A. and not had traffic", and they used to a lot to go to the temple there. He was pretty astonished! Then, we decided to go to Newport beach while we were in the area and boy was it gorgeous!! Cedar City had just been hit by the Christmas Eve storm and had a lot of snow and we were in 70 degree weather! Now I know how Rusty and Kylie in New Zealand feel! We didn't do much there, just walked to the end of the pier and had lunch and watched the fisherman reel in their catch below. One guy caught a starfish and a BIG crab and another guy was pulling a duck off his hook....I hope it wasn't dead! Anyway, it was fun! Then we dropped Jeromy off at the John Wayne Airport and then went to my Grandpa's house. I haven't seen him in at least 3 1/2 years since Grandma died! Its been hard being so far away from him. He's actually my Dad's stepdad, but I spent a lot more time around him than I did with my dad's real dad. He was great with the kids and Jonas just loved him! Kinsey was a little more shy, but she's been like that a lot more lately. We spend a few hours with him and played poker with him for about an hour! We had dinner with him and his friend and basically just had a great, relaxing time! I was joking with him that when I was young, I learned how to do math fast because we were always playing Blackjack with him when we'd go to visit! I always remembered him being kinda gruff with us as kids, probably because we were over a lot, but it was fun to see him laughing at Kinsey and Jonas and talking to them and just loving us being there! I really miss that guy! I wish we lived closer to help out more, but the place he's living at is AMAZING and its nice not to worry about him with such capable people helping him out! At around 7 pm we left Grandpa's house and went home to Bakersfield...it was about an hour and a half, I think, back to home. It was a fun day!
