Twas the week before Christmas....

....and all through the house, all the creatures were antsy, especially the spouse! Jason got out of school on Friday the 18th, and we weren't due to leave for California until Wednesday the 23rd, so we figured we'd actually have some family time...yeah, I know! One night, we decorated some ice cream cones to look like racecars! That was fun, but it didn't take up nearly as much time as I thought it would! Sunday night, we went and had "Christmas Eve" dinner with my mom and sisters up in Paragonah. I was in charge of bringing the Sweet Potata Pie and Apple Pie, as well as the green bean casserole and sparkly cider. I got up and worked all morning before church making the pies and was so excited to see how they'd turned out! The apple pie turned out awesome, if I do say so myself! I used the apple pie filling that I'd made this fall and bottled! This was also the first lattice apple pie I'd made in years, like 10-15 years! It was so fun! The sweet potato pie tasted a lot like a pumpkin and had the same texture, but a little less pumpkinny. I used a puffy pie crust recipe for both and I loved how they turned out, all flaky and tender! Fun stuff! The next night Jeromy, Jason's twin brother flew in from Salt Lake to visit! We hadn't seen him in like a year, and we live so close! Jason had a meeting, so I took the kids to the airport to go watch him land...cause here in Cedar, its such a small airport they drive right up to the door! The kids had a blast watching the plane land and come in! We took him home and made gingerbread houses (out of graham crackers) after having a pot roast a dinner that had been crock potting all day! Jeromy was quite the architect, building the candy cane victorian. We don't know what Jason made, but figured it looked like a church in the end! haha. Kinsey tried to make a house, but it fell down and so she made lemons into lemonade and it became a nativity! You can see the little baby Jesus atop the licorice strands! The Mary and Joseph are around there somewhere! This sure was a fun Christmas this year, the kids being old enought to really kinda get it and all that! Kinsey wouldn't go a day without asking me if she could do the countdown calendar we have! My mom gave us each a chocolate count-down calendar and those kids just loved those, just like I remember loving them when I was little! That was such a fun tradition for us! I think we need to find Jason a dark chocolate version for next year, as he'd pull his chocolate out and give it away, but it was fun anyway! We played games with Jeromy every spare chance we'd get, Jason made Japanese food on Tuesday night, man! we just ate well and had a fun time! Wednesday morning, Jason took Jeromy to meet his plane early in the morning, then the madness started! We hadn't really packed or anything, and were hoping to be out of Cedar and on to California by noon! Well, it really was a Christmas miracle, because we got out of Cedar on time! We got to California....no grumpies in tow....(another Christmas miracle) all safe and sound and the rest is for the next post!
