Logan's First Camping Trip...

Logan has always been very easy-going, so the second week in September, we decided that if we didn't get off our duff and go camping, it wasn't going to happen that summer. We loaded up our gear and headed up the mountain one night after Jason got home from work. We ended up going to Cedar Canyon Campground, the one just below the switchbacks. I never thought that it would be a good place for a campground, with the highway being so busy all the time, but we figured it was close and not another 3,000 feet higher in elevation, so maybe it would be somewhat warm. We were wrong. haha. The Red Rock Relay was going on at the time, so the whole drive up we were passing checkpoints and cars that were driving super slow. We weren't in a hurry so we just enjoyed the drive up. The campground was gorgeous...I'd forgotten how nice it is just to be outside and flying by the seat of my pants. Our lives feel very structured with the baby and just life being so busy, so it was nice to just get up and go and take things as they come. We set up camp and listened to the relay runners getting honked and cheered at by their team mates, ate dutch oven dinner and cobbler with my newly bottled peach pie filling and tried to keep kids warm by the fire. Things went fine until around 4a.m. when I got up with Logan, (we both slept in the van), and realized the van was pretty cold. I started the van just to warm us up a little, hoping Jason and the kids were okay, (but knowing they weren't), and a few minutes later I saw Jason get out of the tent to come ask if I was wanting to go home. I wasn't, but I could tell he was. I didn't want to leave and ruin our ONLY camping trip for the year, so I told him to bring the kids and we'd all snuggle in the back of the van. The kids showed up pretty cold and tired, so we just kept the van running a little while and warmed up and fell asleep all snuggled together. All the kids did great and it was actually kinda fun! The next morning we realized we'd forgotten our fishing tackle so we didn't think it was a good idea to go fishing at the kid's pond again, and while I was packing the car I got snagged by a fly we had on one of our rods. Not bad but, like I said, we had no pliers or anything from the tackle box so I had to do surgery with Jason's hunting knife. I think we all had fun and ate well! Just...note to self...don't go camping in a tent with three kids, up Cedar Mountain, in September, ever again!
