Up, Up and Away!

This morning was the Skyfest hot air balloon, kite, and model plane festival here in Cedar City! I think this was our fifth year going, (the first couple of years were just happenstance!), but this year I planned to go with my friends Tracy and Sarah! Jason and Kinsey went camping and Jonas and I stayed home. They were going to camp in a place that was gonna be very cold and its too hard keeping Jonas napped and warm enough in conditions like that. So, Sarah came down with Strep Throat, so Tracy and I made our own pancakes and muffins and hot cocoa, got up and were there by 7am, and ate all of our food there while we watched the balloons launch one after the other! Jonas was such a trooper! He didn't fuss once until right before it was mostly over...well, the balloon part. Right as we had to leave, they were waiting to launch the big model planes and then at noon they were going to do the candy drop, where they throw candy from a big plane that flies overhead! Ouch! I'd like to calculate the velocity of a piece of candy from that high up, now that I think about it! Anyway, we are planning to go back tonight for the "Glow" that they do. They fill the balloons again and then put lights up in them or blow fire into them so they glow and look like giant stained glass windows! Its gorgeous! All in all, its hard getting up that early and trying to stay warm in the nippy weather was kinda a chore, but it was so worth it! This is one of our favorite things to do in Cedar City, every year!
