So, while I was in Vernal, Jason called me up and said he had a surprise for me! By the way, he's terrible at keeping suprises, so he of course told me what it was....my Orpington chickens had started laying their brown eggs! Now, to some of you, this might sound like the most rediculous thing ever, but after raising 11 chickens...that after some trauma turned into 9 chickens...and feeding and watering every day and naming and petting and swatting when they peck at you...its a milestone! I'd put it up there with the first times my kids rolled over! With my kids, checking on

the chickens and talking to them and collecting their eggs is part of the daily routine. After we pick up Kinsey from school, we all get out, rain or shine, (even though I'd love to deposit kids inside and just hurry and get it over with if its nasty outside), and go do our thing. I also have two Auracana chickens that are supposed to lay blue or green eggs...but guess what. I don't think they do. See this first picture. Well, on the end is the really rediculously HUGE egg we found one day. I imagined that this poor chicken was about ready to die after laying that one...more pictures below.

But, look at the other three on the front row...the one in the middle is slightly off-white, isn't it? Well, its not a bad egg...I think that's my "blue or green tinted egg"! Yeah, of course! Oh well... Okay, this next photo. That is NOT an ostrich egg or something...that came out of one of my poor chickens! You know that look on a guy's face after they watch a movie where some other guy gets hit in the jewels? That's what look I had on my face when I pulled that out of the coop! hahaha. I guess I'm empathetic to chickens, too. Anyway, yep--brown, white, and off-white eggs at our house! Its been a fun hobby so far!
