Jason's Birthday a little early...

So, MONTHS ago I saw that Tuacahn was featuring Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband in concert!!! I was so excited because Jason and I, when we were just starting to date, met these guys while they were doing a benefit concert for a group I volunteered for in Salt Lake 7 years ago! We sold tickets to this band, not knowing what kind of music they played or anything. Well, we ended up going to the concert and absolutely crying we were laughing so hard through the whole thing! We LOVED them! They are such great musicians, but even better than that, they don't take themselves too seriously and they are just so energetic while performing! I can't even explain them...if you ever get a chance to see them live, you HAVE to go see them! Anyway, long story short, I decided that I'd buy the tickets, (15 bucks!), to see them November 13th...even though Jason's birthday is the 29th...and just make that concert his present! He kind of gets overlooked with Thanksgiving so close sometimes. So, for months I've been embezzling funds from our personal account into my old business account so I could take him out to a nice dinner and pay for the tickets without him knowing! I know, I know...not good, but believe me...he forgave me! I wanted it to be a surprise and I didn't want him to worry about where the money was coming from, (so like him), with the holidays coming up!

So, Thursday night, the 12th, I told him that he needed to be home the next day after school by no later than 4:05 pm or he was dead meat! I'm not even kidding...if we'd left any later we wouldn't have made it with rush hour traffic and dropping kids off and all that! So, NO KIDDING, the rest of the evening, he starts outright lying to me...telling me that Brenna had told him everything and that he'd already made plans and stuff! What a punk, huh? He can't stand being kept out of the loop. Of course, I knew Brenna would never spill the beans and when he told me that he'd made other plans I just told him that he was gonna have to cancel very calmly...hahah. Yeah, well, it had snowed that day and was supposed to snow on Friday, the day of the concert, so I wasn't sure if it was all gonna work out anyway. I was sweatin! On Friday morning, I called my Dad, told him it'd snowed again up in Cedar but that it should be better by evening, made sure they could still watch kids, checked weather all day, and just tried to think of everything that might come up! At 3:45 pm, Jason called telling me that he'd had a horrible day and that he was swamped with work and needed to stay until 5 pm! I didn't think he was lying to me then, but I about came undone! I told him there was no way he was staying till five and that if I was gonna have to come get him and drag him out of the school I would! I think he believed me because at 3:55 pm, he was home! I had the kids in the car and everything packed and I told him to get in the car and drive south on the freeway. By the time we were almost to my Dad's house in Santa Clara he'd kinda figured it out, so I spilled the beans! All at once, he looked at me and said, "We're going to Tuacahn, aren't we?" and I calmly looked at him and tried lying, but I couldn't...darn that man! So, I told him everything because he thought we were going to see a play there and he wasn't excited. When I told him that Ryan Shupe was there he about freaked! It was so fun! We dropped kids off in Santa Clara at my Dad's, drove like mad through rush hour traffic to Washington to go to a restaurant called the Texas Roadhouse, (oh my goodness...we love that place!), and then drove like mad back out to Ivins to Tuacahn and actually wasn't late! The concert was so fun! I remember we both kept saying how much we had forgotten we loved them! The picture with them around the upright bass is funny. They always do random things like this, but this time one guy started plunking around on it and then another guy came up after a couple of minutes and another and another and it ended up that all 5 guys played "Low Rider" each plunking their own parts...on one bass...then they started spinning around and not missing a beat! They also do this thing where they all swap instruments and even the drummer plays the fiddle! Its amazing! The only thing I did overlook for the night was the fact that we'd be THAT cold in the canyon! I mean...I went to school there....I only really remember how HOT that place was, not the cold! So, we put on as many coats as we could find and wished we had brought blankets, but we kept warm. I should also say that Peter Breinholt performed for half of the concert, and we liked him, he was fun, but he isn't really our style. But, at least we can say we've seen him in concert and we actually know who he is now! After the concert we practically ran to the car so we could warm up and get outta there before the traffic jam! We got the kids and barely got home before we passed out! It was quite the adventure and Jason was totally shocked! I loved it! He needed a date night that he didn't need to plan or worry about where the money was coming from! Anyway, Happy Early Birthday, Jason! (P.S....he'll be 31 on the 29th! Muuuahahaha!)

That was so nice of you! What a fun suprise. I don't mind suprises if I don't know about them. I hate when people tell me they are going to do something for weeks and I am the only one that doesn't know like Jason. Happy Birthday to him!
