California...In July!

We went to California over the 4th of July weekend! We left the Thursday before and had such a fun trip! Logan and I sat in back and he was such a sweetie! He just slept or played the whole time and we all even got naps! It definitely surprised me, but our motto these days is "expect the worst, hope for the best and enjoy it while it lasts!" We mostly hung out at Jason's parent's house, visited with family and ate too much. We got to visit Jason's grandma, (our kids call her Grandma Great), and we had such a nice time visiting! She hadn't met Logan yet so she just held him the whole time and played with him! Kinsey always has fun playing with her toys and magnets at her house and this trip she made these elaborate...um...sculptures with them? haha. We all had a ball. Another night we went over for cake and icecream and for more visiting! Another day we got to go "the farm" and we were gonna pick Blueberries, but it was just a little too late in the season for them, so we hiked into the blackberry/boysenberry fields. The berries there were MASSIVE and so good! The kids did great picking them despite the thorns on the bushes and the heat...oh, the HEAT! After we picked berries we still had about ten pounds of fruit that we were allowed to pick for free and we wanted to get our money's worth, so we got on the hay ride and rode out to the Apricot/Pluot/Aprium fields! We took one taste of a Pluot (a plum crossed with an Apricot) and were hooked, so we filled up on those too! They have a greenish pink outside but when you bite into them they are bright red inside! YUM! We ended up picking fruit at the farm for about 3 1/2 hours and man, were we beat once we finished. I'm thinking I'll make boysenberry jam or syrup with that ten pounds we picked! I'm so excited! The pluots didn't even make it back to Utah we ate them so fast! We also were there for the 4th and Kinsey and Jonas had a fun time playing with their cousins Sydney and Benjamin, whom they haven't seen in a couple years. We roasted marshmellows and made smores in the back yard fire pit, lit fireworks and watched the local big fireworks, visited, ate a lot...you know, typical 4th stuff! haha. We drove home that Wednesday and boy, is that a long drive, but we were happy we got to go see the family and visit!
